About

I attended the University of British Columbia and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Philosophy. I then attended the Law School at U.B.C. and graduated in 1980 with a L.L.B (now J.D.). After completion of the articling program I was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 1981. Since that time I have been a partner in several law firms and have worked continuously as a trial lawyer in the Provincial Court of B.C., the Supreme Court of B.C. and the Court of Appeal of B.C. I have practiced in many areas of law, including personal injury litigation, criminal law, family law, estate litigation, corporate litigation, and labour law. I continue to have an interest in personal injury law (including ICBC) and estate and wills variation litigation.

I was appointed Queens Counsel in 2015 and I am a rostered member in good standing with Mediate B.C. I have been a practicing member of the Law Society of British Columbia since 1981. I am currently a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Surrey Bar Association, and the New Westminster Bar Association.

My family and I live in the Lower Mainland of B.C. and in my spare time I enjoy photography, skiing and travel.

Fees and Policies

Since 2020, mediation format has changed for those of us doing this work. In-person mediations have given way to virtual online formats that can be more convenient and less expensive. But, online format lacks the direct contact and immediacy of in-person mediation. Some of my clients are content to stay with the online format to cut costs and accommodate those that live in a different community, but some want to return to face to face mediation.  In-person, online virtual, or a hybrid of both, now it is your choice. I offer all three. Flexible mediation formats mean flexible fees. Now you can have the format you want at a flexible fee.  Fees are charged per hour, or portion thereof, based upon the number of parties involved and the complexity of the matters. There is a three hour minimum.

For in-person mediations there is a 4 hour minimum but, travel fees are not charged if the site of the mediation is within 100 km of my office. For travel over 100 km a mileage fee of $ .50 per km is charged together with reasonable actual travel expenses. Online and in-person mediation services are available. Perhaps you need a combination of both or a hybrid. My team can meet your needs.

Notice of cancellation of a mediation must be given at least seven clear business days before the date set for the start of the mediation.

In-person, online or a hybrid of both, you choose the format.  It is my pleasure to have my team work with yours to accommodate a smooth and effective mediation that meets your needs.
